Russia temporarily bans vegetable, fruit imports from Egypt
MOSCOW/CAIRO, Sep 19 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight has introduced a temporary ban on imports of vegetables and fruits of high phytosanitary risk from Egypt starting from Friday, the regulator said late on September 16.
The ban will be in force until Egypt takes efficient measures to ensure phytosanitary safety of products supplied to Russia, the watchdog said.
The regulator said earlier there were numerous quarantine cases with citrus fruit supplies from Egypt.
Ali Suleiman, advisor to the Egyptian agriculture minister for phytosanitary control, said that Cairo was not notified of the ban on agricultural product supplies to Russia.
Egypt’s Industry and Trade Minister Tarek Kabil said later that Egypt will send a delegation to Russia at the end of September to discuss the ban.
